June Sales

June means sunshine, but also saaaales! Because we have such a plethora of mysteries at our store, we are doing a Buy 2, Get 1 free sale for all of our mystery books, from June 6th until June 13th. Need some mystery book recommendations (for your dad, yourself or anyone else!) check out Ramona’s magical mystery (book) tour. Then, in celebration of Father’s Day weekend, we are doing a Buy 2, Get 1 free sale on absolutely EVERYTHING in store. So, if the sunny weather doesn’t put you in a good mood, these June sales should. Get on down to RB soon to enjoy.
Indigenous History Month
National Indigenous History Month is observed in June, and is a time to recognize and celebrate the rich history, heritage, and resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. And what better way to learn more about this history/heritage than from a book? Luckily, we have lots of Indigenous authors to choose from — from Eden Robinson, to Thomas King, to Robin Wall Kimmerer. Head on down to RB soon to check them out!
Pride Month
Pride Month is celebrated globally in June, and it’s a time for celebration, reflection, and advocacy for inclusion, for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. At RB, we have LGBTQ+ books that range from children’s picture books, to YA novels, to award-winning modern classics. All of us still have lots to learn, and lots of room to grow — and months like this one are the perfect opportunity to start doing just that. Pay us a visit and try out reads like Carry On, or Middlesex, or Howl — we don’t think you’ll regret it!
Father’s Day

It’s Father’s Day coming up on June 13th, which means you’ll need to hit our store to pick up your dad’s next read. Pictured above are some of RB’s fathers and their favourite reads. Actually, this might be sort of meta, but my own dad is in the picture — we both work at Russell Books, and his love of reading inspired my life-long obsession with books! It’s been so cool to share books with my dad throughout my life, and also to share Russell’s with him. Anyway. Just further proof that we are all about family here at RB.
So, whether your dad is into Westerns and might be interested in a good Larry McMurtry, or he’s a mystery guy and may be tempted by an Agatha Christie, we’ve got you covered.
Upcoming Events
Book Launch: Metis Coming Together
On Friday, June 13th, a book launch event will be held at our store, from 7pm to 8pm. The book, Métis Coming Together, is a collection that provides opportunities to learn contemporary Métis ways of knowing and being. It covers topics like language revitalization, feminism, spirituality, and self-determination — and it’s one you don’t want to miss. See you at our store on June 13th!
Jack Knox Fundraiser
Don’t worry if you missed Jack Knox telling Dad jokes by donation! You can still support the Island Kids Cancer Association, a small, Victoria-based charity that helps Vancouver Island families of children with cancer. Until June 17th, all the money from the sale of Jack’s books at Russell’s will go to the IKCA. It’s one of a series of events associated with the End2End cycling relay, in which a team of riders will raise money for the IKCA by pedaling from Victoria to Port Hardy and back nonstop from June 17th-19th.
Great news! We are nominated in both the Best New and Best Used Bookstore categories in the 31st annual Best of the City Awards put on by Victoria News. We would so appreciate your vote, and it ends June 13th. If you have a chance, the link to cast your vote is right here — thanks in advance.
Thanks for Reading!
Duke would like to say a big thank you for reading this far, and for supporting our store. He’d say it himself but he is literally a dog <3
